Palacio

Crowds gathered by the Palacio de Bellas Artes.

After our dinner at El Cardenal, Bridget and I walked with John and Laura to the Palacio de Bellas Artes, the city’s performing arts center.  It was too late to visit, so we decided instead to walk a few blocks to the Zocaló, also known as the Plaza de la Constitución, which is the main plaza of the historic center of the city.  It is flanked by the Metropolitan Cathedral, adjacent to the Templo Major, the great temple of Montezuma.  The Palacio Nacionál also looks out over the Zocaló.

We had a drink overlooking the Zocaló.

We went to a bar overlooking the Zocaló and talked about the beautiful things we had seen and how we wished that our friends from home, Heitor and Maria, could be with us.  After that, we returned to our apartments, looking forward to our outing the next day.  We were going to the “floating islands” of Xochimilco.
