We visited Rio de Janeiro from July 11-16. Paul had found for us a tenth-floor apartment two blocks from Copacabana Beach (at Rua Rodolfo Dantas 87/1002). We felt like Cariocas, the natives of the city. The apartment became our headquarters. The weather was warm (considering that it is winter in the Southern Hemisphere), and very much like our weather in California. That made it easy to walk to the sights. Thanks to Paul, we had an itinerary for every day, selected from among the places we most wanted to visit:
- Copacabana (07/11),
- Pão de Açúcar (07/11),
- Jardim Botânico (07/12),
- Niteroi (07/13),
- Largo de Carioca (07/13),
- Sítio Burle-Marx (07/14), and
- Corcovado (07/15).
I was usually up first, and would go to a bakery. Back at the apartment, I would toast the bread in the oven. It was a good way to start the day, and for me to see a bit of the local color on my own.
You can see some of the sites by clicking on the names above, or jump ahead to our next destination, Brasilia, to which we traveled on July 16.
